What Is Dental Bonding?
If you have a chipped, discolored, or cracked tooth, dental bonding is the easiest and most affordable cosmetic dental procedure that can fix these problems. A tooth-colored composite resin can be shaped and polished to match your other teeth. It can even be used to close spaces between teeth or change a tooth’s overall shape.
Anesthesia isn’t necessary unless the bond is being used to fill a decayed tooth. If this is the case, Dr. Oji will discuss anesthesia options with you. Learn more on our anesthesia options page.
The Dental Bonding Process
If dental bonding is the chosen procedure for you, Dr. Oji will use a shade guide to determine the right color for the composite resin. She will etch the surface of the tooth to roughen it and coat it with a conditioning liquid. The resin will be molded and reshaped, then hardened with ultraviolet light. After it hardens, they will trim and shape the bond as needed. It will be polished to match the sheen of your other teeth, and your procedure will be complete.
This process takes roughly 1 hour. Several appointments may be needed if you require bonding on multiple teeth. You should avoid tea, coffee, cigarette smoke, or other staining substances for 48 hours after your treatment to prevent stains.
